Caudipteryx was a small feathered Early Cretaceous Chinese dinosaur. Forelimb feathers and a short tail-tip fan gave a birdlike appearance. Feathers do not imply powered flight: body and wing proportions differed markedly from flying birds.

Small stones found with remains are interpreted as digestive aids. Small teeth and snout structure indicate feeding unlike that of large predators. Precise proportions of everyday foods remain unknown.
