The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
Carnotaurus was a predatory dinosaur of Late Cretaceous Argentina. It had two horns above the eyes, a short muzzle and a skull narrow in front view. It belonged to the abelisaurids, theropods with greatly reduced forelimbs. Its arms were exceptionally small relative to its body.
Teeth and jaws indicate carnivory, but specific prey remains unknown. Horn function is also studied: they may have served in displays towards mates and rivals. Flexible lower-jaw connections affected mouth opening and are analysed when reconstructing prey capture and swallowing.
The species is known chiefly from an important Argentine skeleton. Associated skin impressions show scales over much of the body. Missing tail and limb sections are reconstructed by comparing preserved bones with better-known relatives.
