Alpkarakush — size comparison — facts and sources

Alpkarakush was a carnivorous dinosaur of the Middle Jurassic in what is now Kyrgyzstan. The discovery fills an important gap in the known distribution of large Jurassic theropods between Europe and eastern Asia. Bone comparisons place it among the metriacanthosaurids.

The species was described in 2024 following successive excavation campaigns. A larger and a younger individual were identified at the site.

The presence of a larger and a younger animal led researchers to consider a possible family relationship. Bone histology allowed analysis of their growth stages, and the species name emphasises the material's origin in Kyrgyzstan.
