The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
Allosaurus was a large, two-legged predator of the Late Jurassic. It lived in what is now North America, and its bones are among the most common carnivore remains in the Morrison Formation. Its skull had a narrow front, a more robust rear and small ridge-like projections in front of the eyes.
Strong forelimbs ended in large claws and may have helped hold prey. It lived alongside sauropods and stegosaurs. Feeding traces show that it used their bodies, although a hunted animal cannot always be distinguished from scavenged carrion. Skull projections may have served display or recognition.
Utah collections include young and large adults, allowing growth-related changes in proportion to be compared. Large bone accumulations do not establish pack hunting: geological processes and long-term accumulation of remains may also have contributed.
