Vietnamese mossy frog — size comparison — facts and sources

The Vietnamese mossy frog lives in humid forests, beside rocky streams and in flooded caves. Green skin with dark spots, bumps and projections resembles moss. Motionless animals almost disappear against overgrown rocks. Toe pads grip steep surfaces.

Much time is spent in crevices and shallow water beneath rocks or plants, sometimes with only eyes exposed. Chiefly nocturnal, it hunts insects and other invertebrates. Males are usually smaller and slimmer than females.

Breeding occurs in rock cavities with water below. Females lay eggs above the surface; hatchling tadpoles drop into the water and continue developing.
