Chiweenie (Chihuahua × Dachshund) — size comparison — facts and sources
Chiweenie is a common name for a Chihuahua–Dachshund cross. An elongated body and shorter legs may combine with a finer head and large ears. Ears may stand upright or droop. Hair may be short or longer depending on the parental varieties, and even closely related dogs need not share similar proportions.
Its ancestry brings together a Mexican companion dog and a German hunting dog whose breeding was shaped partly by underground work. Chiweenie itself is a modern term for the cross. It does not denote one established Dachshund variety or a shared programme fixing a particular appearance.
Such a dog may be alert, active and strongly attached to familiar people. Interest in scents and independent action may recall the Dachshund, while quick alarm barking is associated with the Chihuahua. These traits are not inherited as a fixed package. Openness to strangers and reactions to unfamiliar situations also vary.
