Turkish Van — size comparison — facts and sources
The Turkish Van is a large, strong cat with soft, semi-long hair and a bushy tail. Classic colouring leaves most of the body white, concentrating colour mainly on the head and tail. The coat has little underfur and changes noticeably in fullness with the seasons. The cat matures slowly, gradually gaining weight and strength.
The breed is associated with Turkey and its tradition of local long-haired cats. Van also entered breeding terminology for a similar distribution of white in other breeds. The modern Van remains distinct from the Turkish Angora, with a heavier, stronger build.
It is usually energetic, curious and an accomplished jumper. It forms attachments to people but often chooses when to seek closer contact. It enjoys exploring and active play. Running water may excite its interest, although responses vary between individuals.
