Turkish Angora — size comparison — facts and sources
The Turkish Angora has a light, elongated body, large ears and a long, plumed tail. Its silky coat has little undercoat and falls softly along the body. White is best known, but other colours and patterns occur. Long legs and a fine head give it a particularly slender appearance.
It comes from present-day Turkey. Long-haired cats from the region had long reached Europe, but the later popularity of Persians reduced interest in the older Angora type. A programme preserving white cats in Ankara played an important role in maintaining it. Surviving lines helped rebuild modern breeding.
Angoras are generally active, determined and curious. They climb readily, observe from high places and investigate new objects. They quickly learn household routines and may anticipate the next activity. Attachment often shows through active involvement in family life, alongside persistence in pursuing their own ideas.
