Tonkinese — size comparison — facts and sources
The Tonkinese has a medium-sized, muscular body and a short, silky coat. Its build is less elongated than the Siamese and lighter than the typical Burmese. Three patterns occur: solid, mink and point. They differ in contrast between body and markings and in eye colour; aquamarine is characteristic of mink.
The modern breed developed in North America from Siamese and Burmese lines. Breeders established an intermediate appearance and colouring, creating a distinct pedigree population.
Tonkinese are usually highly social and curious. They follow people, investigate new arrivals in the home and enjoy shared play. They quickly recognise routine signals and ways of gaining attention. At rest they often seek closeness to people or familiar animals.
