The Tasman Manx retains the Manx’s compact, muscular body, deep flanks and higher hind legs. Its hair, however, forms loose waves and occasional corkscrew curls. The rounded rump is particularly conspicuous in the tailless type.

Its curly coat results from a recessive mutation that appeared independently in Manx litters in Australia and New Zealand. Tasman refers to the region linking the two countries. The standard also includes the longhaired Tasman Cymric and tailed Isle of Man varieties. The tailless variety retains the Manx mutation’s associated risk of impaired spinal and nervous-system development.
