Siberian — size comparison — facts and sources

The Siberian is strongly built, with a broad body and powerful hind legs. Its very dense, semi-long coat forms a ruff and a bushy tail. The head has rounded contours and medium-sized ears. Seasonal changes in coat volume make it look especially substantial in winter.

It belongs to the natural cat breeds of northern Eurasia. Modern breeding developed in Russia from local long-haired cats before spreading abroad. Breeders retained the strong frame and dense coat associated with a harsh climate. Pointed cats known as Neva Masquerades also occur within this breeding tradition.

Siberians are often closely attached to their households and follow activities with curiosity. Strong jumpers, they enjoy high vantage points and prey-like toys. Quiet rest close to a person can alternate with sudden, energetic games. Their substantial bodies remain agile and well coordinated.
