Siamese — size comparison — facts and sources
The Siamese has a long, slender body, a thin tail and a wedge-shaped head with very large ears. Its short coat lies close to the body. The pale torso contrasts with darker points on the face, ears, legs and tail, and the eyes are blue. Point colouring is temperature-sensitive, with cooler parts of the body developing darker pigment.
The breed comes from Thailand, formerly Siam. Cats with dark points reached Europe in the nineteenth century and attracted breeders’ attention. Over subsequent generations, the modern show type became more slender, with a longer head and larger ears. The Thai breed retains a more rounded, older type.
Siamese cats are generally social, active and vocal. They often answer people, follow their activities and seek involvement. Climbing, investigating objects and learning games appeal to their curiosity. They can form close relationships with household members.
