Selkirk Rex Longhair — size comparison — facts and sources
The longhaired Selkirk Rex has a strong body, rounded head and dense, plush hair forming soft curls. Longer strands curl particularly noticeably on the ruff, belly and tail. Coat appearance changes with age and season, and kittens’ curls may temporarily straighten.
The breed originated in the United States from a natural mutation. Curly hair is inherited as a dominant trait and occurs in shorthaired and longhaired varieties.
It may be calm, patient and sociable. It often rests near people but readily responds to an invitation to play. Interaction is usually gentle and less insistent than in many highly active oriental breeds.
