Safari F1 — experimental hybrid — size comparison — facts and sources

The Safari F1 is a direct hybrid of a domestic cat and the South American Geoffroy’s cat, Leopardus geoffroyi. It usually has a short, spotted coat and dark tail rings. Size, proportions and pattern intensity also depend on the domestic parent used in the cross.

Such crosses were described in scientific research in the 1970s. Safari remained a very rare experimental hybrid without a uniform standard from the main cat registries. Behavioural information comes chiefly from a few breeding establishments and individual observations. These cannot reliably establish one temperament for the whole group or justify describing it like an established domestic breed.
