The short-haired Pixiebob has a strong, heavy body, a large inverted-pear-shaped head and a naturally short tail. Dense, somewhat woolly hair is brown spotted tabby. Some cats have extra toes, permitted by the breed standard.
The breed developed in the United States through selection of domestic cats resembling bobcats. Despite stories surrounding its beginnings, wild bobcat ancestry has not been confirmed. TICA granted championship status in 1998.
Breed accounts often describe a calm, sociable temperament. Pixiebobs enjoy watching household activities and following a chosen person. They can nevertheless respond eagerly to toys, retrieve and learn simple actions. Soft sounds and close companionship often signal a desire for human contact.
