Oriental Shorthair — size comparison — facts and sources

The Oriental Shorthair has a long, slender body, a thin tail and a wedge-shaped head with very large ears. Its short coat lies close to the muscles. Colours and patterns are numerous, including solids, tabbies and white markings. Intense green eyes are characteristic of many colour varieties.

The breed shares its body type and much of its breeding history with the Siamese. Breeders retained the long outline and large ears while introducing a wider range of colours. Instead of restriction to darker points, many varieties have pigment across the body. The Oriental Longhair represents a related type with a longer coat.

Orientals are generally communicative, active and curious. They often answer with meows, follow their people and participate in household events. They learn games quickly, climb skilfully and may persist in overcoming an obstacle to an interesting place. Close relationships with familiar people often involve frequent self-initiated contact.
