The long-haired LaPerm has a slender, muscular outline and a light coat forming loose waves and ringlets. Curls are clearest on the neck, around the ears and on the tail. Little underfur gives the coat a fluffy, somewhat tousled appearance. Large ears emphasise its attentive expression.
The breed began with Curly, a female born on an Oregon cherry farm in 1982. Almost hairless at birth, she later grew a soft, curly coat. The trait also appeared in her offspring and became the basis for further breeding.
LaPerms are usually gentle, curious and highly sociable. They enjoy watching people closely, touching them with a paw or inviting play. They remain agile and active, especially when climbing or following a moving toy.
