Kurilian Bobtail Shorthair — size comparison — facts and sources

The shorthaired Kurilian Bobtail has a broad chest, strong body and powerful hind legs. Its short, dense coat reveals its build clearly. Several bent vertebrae form the tail, whose individual arrangement creates a small pompom.

It descends from natural populations of the Kuril Islands and Sakhalin. Short tails occurred there before organised breeding began. The shorthaired and longhaired varieties share ancestry, a strong build and characteristic tail structure.

It is usually agile, curious and independent. It readily watches its surroundings from high places, climbs and pursues toys. With familiar people it often shows gentleness and attachment.
