The long-haired Kurilian Bobtail has a strong body, powerful hindquarters and a short, kinked tail concealed in a fluffy pompom. Tail bends form an individual arrangement. Semi-long hair is fuller on the neck, hind legs and tail, emphasising the stocky outline.
It descends from natural cat populations of the Kuril Islands and Sakhalin. Short tails persisted over generations before organised breeding began. Short- and long-haired varieties share origins and their basic body type.
Kurilian Bobtails are usually curious, athletic and independent. They enjoy climbing, jumping and hunting-style games. They often show gentleness and attachment to familiar people, combining close contact with a desire to explore on their own.
