The Karelian Bobtail has a naturally short, bent tail that forms a pompom beneath the fur. Shorthaired and semi-longhaired varieties occur. It has a capable, muscular build.
It comes from Karelia in northwestern Russia. It is a separate population from the Kurilian Bobtail of the Far Eastern islands. WCF maintains a standard covering both coat lengths.
Breed accounts describe it as alert, curious and active. It readily follows movement, climbs and engages in play, and can be sociable and attached to familiar people.
