The Himalayan combines a Persian’s stocky build, round head and long, abundant coat with pointed colouring. Face, ears, feet and tail are darker than the body, and eyes are blue. A dense ruff and fluffy tail further round the outline.
It developed through Persian–Siamese programmes introducing points into Persian type. It was recognised in the United States in 1957. Classification varies: TICA places it in the Persian group, while FIFe treats the colouring as a Persian variety.
It usually prefers quiet contact, familiar places and gentle games. It enjoys resting beside its owner while observing. A moving object may prompt a short chase, but it is generally not constantly active.
