The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The European Shorthair has a balanced, strong body, well-developed muscles and short, dense hair. The head is fairly broad, the ears medium-sized and the tail gradually tapered. Many natural colours occur, including tabbies, solids and patterns with white.
The breed was established from European domestic cats while retaining an ordinary, unexaggerated build. FIFe separated its standard from the British Shorthair’s in 1982. European Shorthair denotes a pedigree breed, although everyday usage often applies it to cats without documented ancestry.
It is usually alert, curious and adept at hunting games. It enjoys watching moving objects, climbing and exploring. Relationships with people may combine attachment with considerable independence.
