Egyptian Mau — size comparison — facts and sources
The Egyptian Mau has a lean, muscular body, slightly longer hind legs and a short coat with natural spots. An extended fold of skin beneath the abdomen allows the body to stretch widely when running. Silver, bronze and smoke are the best-known colours; dark forehead markings are often compared to a scarab.
Its appearance recalls spotted cats associated with Egypt, but the modern breed is a selectively bred population with a defined standard. It is among the few domestic breeds whose spotting was established from a naturally occurring pattern.
Maus are usually athletic, watchful and deeply attached to familiar people. They can be more cautious with strangers, observing first. They enjoy chasing moving toys, jumping onto high places and initiating play. Reactions are quick, and emotions often show through tail and whole-body movement.
