The Donskoy, also called Don Sphynx, has a strong body, broad ears and pronounced skin folds. Its head is wedge-shaped with defined cheekbones. Coat types range from complete hairlessness to down, velour and rough brush hair; some cats gradually lose hair while growing.
Breeding began with Varvara, a female found in Rostov-on-Don in 1987. Her offspring enabled reduced hair to become established. The Donskoy arose independently of the Canadian Sphynx, and its defining mutation has a different inheritance pattern.
It is generally open to contact and actively seeks company. It enjoys investigating objects, playing and watching family members closely. Lively activity often alternates with long rests beside a person or among familiar cats.
