Chartreux — size comparison — facts and sources
The Chartreux is a strong cat with a broad chest, full cheeks and relatively slender legs. Its dense, slightly woolly coat occurs only in blue shades, from pale ash to dark slate. Eyes are gold or copper, and the muzzle gives a characteristic impression of a smile.
It is an old French breed whose name appears in historical descriptions of blue cats. Modern breeding preserved their solid build and distinctive double-coat texture. A blue cat is not necessarily a Chartreux: similar colouring occurs in many unrelated populations.
Chartreux are generally calm, observant and strongly attached to family. They often accompany people discreetly, watching activities nearby. Their voices may be very quiet. Play reveals dexterity and hunting concentration before they return to peaceful rest.
