The Burmilla has a strong, medium-sized body and a short, silky coat. Darker hair tips form a delicate silvery shade over a pale background. Defined eye and nose outlines emphasise facial features, while a gently rounded head recalls its Burmese ancestry.
The breed began with an accidental British litter in 1981 from a Burmese female and a chinchilla Persian. Pale coats and contrasting markings encouraged breeders to establish a new variety. Burmilla combines references to both founding breeds.
Burmillas can be sociable, gentle and playful. They readily approach family members, investigate new objects and follow movement. They may play for long periods, then rest quietly near a person while observing activities.
