British Longhair — size comparison — facts and sources

The British Longhair retains the British cat’s substantial build: a broad chest, strong legs and round head with full cheeks. A very dense semi-long coat forms a ruff and abundant tail. Small or medium ears are widely spaced, and large round eyes strengthen its gentle expression.

Long hair persisted in British lines after earlier Persian crosses. Such kittens remained outside mainstream shorthair breeding for many years. They eventually developed as a separate variety; TICA recognised the British Longhair in 2009.

It is usually calm, attached to family and fairly independent. It often rests in the same room as its owner without continually seeking a lap. An interesting toy may prompt a short chase, followed by a return to watching its surroundings.
