Bombay — size comparison — facts and sources

The Bombay has a compact, muscular body, a round head and a short, glossy coat. The hair is solid black to the roots, and large eyes range from gold to copper. A dark nose and paw pads complete the characteristic appearance.

The breed developed in the United States from sable Burmese and black American Shorthairs. Breeders aimed for a domestic cat resembling a miniature black panther. Bombay refers to that association rather than the actual place of origin. Its ancestry consists entirely of domestic cats.

Bombays are generally sociable, intelligent and interested in daily family life. They investigate objects, enjoy games and quickly recognise ways to gain attention. Many seek physical closeness, resting beside people or on their laps. Sociability combines with curiosity and an appetite for exploring familiar surroundings.
