Australian Mist — size comparison — facts and sources
The Australian Mist has a medium-sized body, a gently rounded head and short, silky hair. Spots or marbled bands are partly softened by ticking: alternating colour bands on individual hairs. The pattern consequently appears softened, as though beneath a light mist.
The breed was created in Australia from Burmese, Abyssinian and local domestic cats. Initially only spotted cats were bred, giving the name Spotted Mist. When marbled colouring was included in 1998, Australian Mist became the name.
Breeding placed considerable importance on sociability. Australian Mists often seek contact, enjoy games and take an interest in family members. Activity is usually not abrupt: after chasing or climbing they may rest for a long time near people.
