The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The Cane Corso is a strong, muscular dog with a broad head and a short, close-fitting coat. It has a deep chest, a well-defined neck and a body slightly longer than it is tall. Natural ears hang beside the cheeks. Its powerful build retains athletic ability, allowing surprisingly quick and agile movement without the heaviness of some larger mastiff types.
The breed descends from Italian farm dogs used for guarding, handling cattle and hunting large game. Their numbers declined as rural life changed. Dogs survived particularly in Apulia and neighbouring southern regions, which supplied the foundations for rebuilding modern breeding.
Attentive, quick to learn and closely attached to household members, it can remain calm in familiar surroundings while observing new people and situations. It is often reserved with strangers. When something attracts its attention, the response can be quick and decisive. It enjoys shared tasks but retains independence and a clear instinct to guard its space.
