Boxer — size comparison — facts and sources

The Boxer is a medium-sized, muscular dog with an almost square outline. It has a broad, short muzzle, a pronounced chin and a dark mask. The short coat is fawn or brindle, often with white markings. Springy movement and expressive features make its mood easy to read: concentration, curiosity and readiness to play show in the whole body.

The breed developed in Germany from the old Bullenbeisser, used to catch and hold large game, and bulldog-type dogs. As hunting methods changed, other roles developed for these strong dogs. Modern breeding established the Boxer as a working dog and companion capable of cooperating closely with people. Guarding and service duties also form part of its history.

Boxers usually become deeply involved with their families and retain a love of exuberant play for a long time. They can be affectionate, comical and direct in seeking contact. They also watch unfamiliar situations carefully and may initially be reserved with strangers. They respond quickly to human emotions and clearly express their own excitement.
