Blue Lacy — size comparison

The Blue Lacy is a lean, muscular dog with a short coat, light body and efficient movement. It may be blue-grey, red or tricoloured, although its name is most strongly associated with the first colour. It has drooping ears and an attentive expression. Its outline is well suited to fast action in open country.

It developed in Texas as a ranch helper and tracking dog. Its name commemorates the Lacy family, who were associated with its breeding. These dogs were valued for livestock work, endurance and the ability to perform varied outdoor tasks. In 2005 the Blue Lacy became the official state dog of Texas. It remains closely associated with local ranching culture.

It is usually quick to react and deeply engaged in a chosen activity. It watches people attentively but can also assess situations and choose an approach independently. A new scent or an animal's movement easily attracts its attention. It can be strongly attached to those close to it and enjoys shared activities. Its most characteristic quality is a readiness for intense activity requiring both movement and concentration.
