Superb starling — size comparison — facts and sources

The superb starling inhabits East African savannas, thorn scrub and fields. Its glossy blue-green back and breast are separated by a pale band from the reddish belly. Metallic sheen depends on feather structure and changes with the light angle.

It collects insects, fruit and seeds in flocks. Birds communicate vocally and respond jointly to threats. Breeding may be cooperative: helpers from the group feed young alongside the parental pair. More than two adults may consequently attend one nest.
