The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The ruddy duck is a diving duck that obtains food underwater. It eats invertebrates, seeds and other aquatic plant parts. It selects ponds, lakes and wetlands providing both feeding areas and vegetation in which to hide a nest.
During breeding males perform characteristic courtship displays involving head and bill movements. The female incubates and leads the offspring. Chicks soon leave the nest and can move on water but need cover and access to suitably small food.
Outside the breeding season birds may gather in larger groups on open waters. The species has also been introduced to some regions beyond its natural range.
