The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The long-billed curlew spends its breeding season on extensive North American grasslands. It searches for invertebrates on and within the soil. Its long bill allows it to probe places inaccessible to many other birds.
Outside the breeding season it may also feed on muddy coasts and fields. It nests on the ground. The young are mobile soon after hatching and follow adults while obtaining their own food.
It moves seasonally between breeding areas and wintering grounds. Its needs are not limited to a single type of wetland: prairies and other open habitats are also important.
