The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The little penguin, called kororā in New Zealand, has a bluish back and white underparts. It is the smallest living penguin. It obtains most of its food at sea, diving for small fish, squid and crustaceans.
It usually returns ashore after dark, often with other birds. It conceals its nest in a burrow, rock crevice, beneath vegetation or under a sheltered structure. The pair shares incubation and chick-feeding duties.
Once a year it replaces all its plumage. For about two weeks it then remains on land, using accumulated reserves. It can resume feeding at sea once its complete waterproof covering has regrown.
