Lilac-breasted roller — size comparison — facts and sources
The lilac-breasted roller has a pale head, lilac breast and blue wing areas particularly conspicuous in flight. It inhabits open African savannas, forest margins and scattered woodland, usually alone or in pairs.
It watches for insects and small vertebrates from an exposed branch or other raised perch, then drops to the ground after prey. Courtship includes acrobatic flights, rolls and abrupt turns displaying its contrasting wings.
