Lady Amherst's pheasant — size comparison — facts and sources

Lady Amherst's pheasant inhabits mountain bamboo forests and scrub. Males have a pale, black-edged cape and a very long tail with cross-barred feathers. More subdued females disappear readily into undergrowth.

It gathers seeds, shoots, fruit and invertebrates on the ground and roosts in trees. Males display ornamental plumage during courtship. Females care for chicks, which begin feeding independently early while following their mother.
