King of Saxony bird-of-paradise — size comparison — facts and sources

The King of Saxony bird-of-paradise lives in New Guinea’s mountain forests. Males have two exceptionally elongated head plumes with small flaglike side structures. The body is black and yellow, while females have subdued plumage. Food consists mainly of fruit and arthropods collected in vegetation.

A male occupies a chosen display perch, attracting females with unusual crackling calls and moving its ornamental plumes during a complex dance. The plumes may greatly exceed its body length. After choosing a mate, the female alone nests, incubates and raises offspring. The display site is therefore an arena for the male rather than a shared pair nest.
