The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The kākāpō is a large, flightless New Zealand parrot. Mottled green plumage blends into vegetation, and facial feathers create an owl-like appearance. Active mainly at night, it walks on the ground and climbs trees capably. It eats leaves, shoots, fruit, seeds and underground plant parts.
It breeds in years when important food plants fruit abundantly. Males prepare networks of tracks and shallow bowls from which they give low booms interspersed with sharper calls. Females visit display grounds, choose a mate, then incubate and raise young alone.
Human-introduced predators brought it close to extinction. Survival requires intensive conservation on islands and in areas protected from non-native mammals. Monitoring tracks reproduction and allows assistance when natural parental care is insufficient.
