Indigo Bunting — size comparison — facts and sources
The indigo bunting inhabits scrub, overgrown clearings and woodland edges. During the breeding season the male sings from an exposed branch, post or another point from which its voice carries well. The female and nest usually remain much better concealed in dense vegetation.
It gathers seeds and fruit and regularly eats insects in summer. It feeds among low plants and on the ground, so it needs areas with varied vegetation structure.
It migrates between breeding sites in North America and wintering grounds farther south. Outside the breeding season it may gather in flocks.
