Iceland gull — size comparison — facts and sources
The Iceland gull looks more delicate than the glaucous gull, with a rounder head, a slimmer bill and long wings. Adults of the subspecies glaucoides have very pale backs and white tips to the flight feathers.
It breeds in Arctic North America and Greenland. After breeding some birds appear on North Atlantic coasts, including harbours and bays. It feeds on the water and along shores and may associate with other gull species.
Wing patterns differ between populations, and some birds have darker flight-feather tips. The young are mottled light brown, and their delicate build and slender bills help distinguish them from the bulkier glaucous gull.
