Green Heron — size comparison — facts and sources
The green heron hunts along overgrown shores, usually remaining under vegetation cover. It waits motionlessly for prey or slowly changes position. It catches fish, amphibians and various aquatic invertebrates.
While feeding it may hold its neck folded, then quickly extend it towards prey. Some individuals have been observed placing small objects or food on the water to attract fish. This interesting behaviour does not occur on every hunt.
It builds its nest in a shrub or tree, usually near a wetland. It may breed alone or in a small aggregation.
