The Eurasian tree sparrow has a chestnut cap and black patch on its white cheek. Sexes resemble each other. It inhabits villages, gardens, parks and forest margins, readily using adjoining fields.

It gathers seeds near the ground and brings invertebrates to young. Crevices, hollows and boxes provide nests. Social non-breeding flocks feed and roost together.
