Brahma is one of the largest domestic chicken breeds. It has a broad, deep body, a small pea comb and heavily feathered shanks and outer toes. In the Light variety, a white body contrasts with black neck markings and the cock’s dark tail.
The breed was developed in the United States during the nineteenth century using chickens imported from Asia. Its calm appearance accompanies a heavy build, although size varies with sex, breeding line and age. The board shows a moderately sized adult cock, since published accounts also describe exceptionally large Brahmas.
