The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The American crow inhabits varied North American landscapes where trees and regular food sources are available. It uses fields, pastures, parks, settlements and watersides. It avoids extensive treeless deserts and enters closed forests more often along roads or streams than through their interiors.
It is omnivorous, eating seeds, fruit, insects, small animals, carrion and human food remains. It can find new resources together with others. It feeds on the ground and in tree crowns, adapting behaviour to readily available food.
It conceals a stick nest in a tree, often near the trunk. Pairs may live in family groups with offspring from previous years that help rear young. Large communal roosts form in winter. Crows also cooperate to drive away owls, hawks and other potential predators.
