The Biewer Terrier is a small dog with long, straight, silky hair. Its tricolour coat prominently includes white alongside darker body areas and golden head markings. Small erect ears and a bright gaze give it a lively expression. In full coat, hair falls along the sides and sways gently in movement.
Its origins are linked to Werner and Gertrud Biewer's breeding in Germany. They developed tricolour dogs descended from Yorkshire Terriers, gradually establishing a distinct appearance. Interest later spread abroad. Organisations recognising the Biewer adopted its own standard, so its history includes both shared Yorkshire roots and subsequent independent development.
It is cheerful, curious and strongly interested in household life. It readily plays, follows people's movements and engages with small daily events. It can be affectionate but also insist on attention. It is active and expressive, often showing pleasure through its whole body.
