The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The Bichon Frise is a small white dog with soft curls and distinctly dark eyes. A black nose and eyelid rims emphasise its lively expression. It has a light, balanced body, drop ears and a tail carried over the back. A fluffy trim can make it appear almost spherical, but beneath the coat is a slimmer, active dog.
Bichons reached France from Italy during the Renaissance. The name is derived from barbichon, referring to a small Barbet. They accompanied European courts for centuries and appeared in paintings by well-known artists. Popularity later declined, and the world wars threatened continued breeding. French and Belgian breeders played leading roles in rebuilding the population.
Bichons are generally outgoing, cheerful and interested in people. They join household activities, invite play and seek closeness. Many quickly notice which behaviours attract attention and repeat them enthusiastically. They often make new acquaintances more readily than strongly protective breeds. Their sociability combines curiosity with enjoyment of activity outside the home.
