Aussiepom names a cross between the Australian Shepherd and Pomeranian. It often has a dense coat, pronounced ruff and fluffy tail, but its build may resemble either parent. Ears may stand upright or fold. Some dogs have merle colouring, but this is not shared by the whole varied group.
Its ancestry combines an American herding dog with a small spitz developed as a companion. The name joins shortened versions of the parental breed names. It does not describe one multigenerational population with a shared history or a miniature Australian Shepherd variety. Size and proportions can differ greatly within these crosses.
It may readily track movement, learn new tasks quickly and respond actively to household events. Some dogs are particularly vocal when alerting, while others show greater interest in shared play. Herding tendencies and spitz alertness can appear in very different proportions.
