The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The banded archerfish has a silvery body with dark vertical bands, high-set eyes and an upward-facing mouth. It occurs in South and Southeast Asia and around northern Australia. It often occupies brackish estuaries and mangrove areas, although it also appears in fresh water.
It hunts near the surface. It shoots an accurate water jet from its mouth to dislodge insects sitting above the water. When prey falls it quickly swims over and catches it. It may also leap for an insect just above the surface.
It supplements its diet with small aquatic animals, including crustaceans. Staying near the surface allows it both to watch underwater surroundings and search for food on above-water plant parts.
Długość całkowita (TL): od końca pyska do końca płetwy ogonowej, bez wąsików. Długość zwykle spotykana według źródła, nie średnia populacji. Widok przedni ma przybliżone proporcje.
